Darik Steinbach

Please tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.)
Most people will know that I’m married, and my wife Tara and I always work out together.  We’ve been married for 14 years, and have a great doggy, Puu the Pug.  We live in Minnetrista, and have for about 4 years.  I’m a residential Realtor, and run a real estate sales team.  We own a property flipping business, which Tara manages.  We also own a business that owns and manages residential rental properties.  I love traveling, especially going to the beach!  Unless it’s a ski vacation wherever I go better be warm!
When did you start doing CrossFit?
I joined Crossfit SISU on April 1, 2014.
What were you doing before CrossFit?
Before Crossfit, I ran marathons.  Usually a couple per year.  They started out as a great way to keep in shape.  Then I discovered that I could get away with not training and just struggle through them…..
Why did you start doing CrossFit?
I started doing Crossfit because I was looking for a workout in a group atmosphere.  I work with business coaches, why not work with a physical fitness coach!  Right?!
What apprehensions did you have before starting?
I was worried about where I was physically when I started.  I wasn’t strong, and my cardio shape wasn’t very good either.
What made you decide to come CrossFit SISU?
Crossfit SISU was my only choice, because I really wanted a gym that was close to home, and the Excelsior location is kind of between work and home.
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?
I almost puked my first workout.  I think Jason thought I was going to puke or pass out or both!  It was brutal….  The first week was harsh, then it got better and better!
What’s the greatest benefit you see so far since starting CrossFit and SISU?
Surely the greatest benefit has to be my mindset.  Physically I feel great, but I feel like my mind is really pumping with all the great energy of an intense daily workout.
Are there any special memories/ achievements during your time here that you would like to share?
I secretly really enjoy winning the WOD!  🙂
What advice would you give to a person just joining CrossFit SISU?
The biggest piece of advice I can give to a new person is, just stick with it!  There’s an athlete inside of you somewhere, it’ll find it’s way out if you keep working on getting better.
Something you might not know about me is?
You might not know that I have to goal to have the option of retiring by the time I’m 40.  I’ve got a long ways to go, and I’m excited that I have a plan to get there!
Favorite WOD?
Favorite WOD is anything with an 800 meter run, or multiple 400’s.  I love really burning myself on those runs!
Least Favorite WOD?
Least Favorite WOD is one with dubs….  I seriously can do like 4, then 2, then 1, 1, 1 ,1…..
Favorite Lift?
I really enjoy squatting and power cleans.
Least favorite lift?
Snatching kind of stinks to me.  I haven’t figured out the movement yet, so I just muscle it up there!
