Anna Christensen

Anna grew up in Mandan, North Dakota. As a child she was wild and fearless. When she was two years old, her mom was out gardening and turned around to find Anna dangling upside-down from her knees from the top bar of the swing set—and that was the day that her mother decided that Anna was destined to be an adrenaline junkie and immediately enrolled her into gymnastics classes. Throughout her high school years, Anna dedicated a lot of her time to competitive soccer and gymnastics, and even began to dabble in coaching these sports. She left for college and moved to the “big city” of Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota, where she realized that she was still able to stay involved in these sports. She did intramural soccer and gymnastics, picked up marathon running, and eventually had the opportunity to coach gymnastics again. After graduating, she found it challenging to balance a full time-job, part-time coaching, and working out. For the first time in Anna’s life, it felt like fitness was becoming a chore rather than an interest. In an effort to try new things and stay interested in fitness, she tried a number of different Groupon deals: yoga, boxing, and eventually CrossFit. After spending months jumping from Groupon to Groupon, she found a home at CrossFit SISU.

I CrossFit because…

“CrossFit allows people to become not only physically strong, but mentally strong. Similar to gymnastics, it really makes you ask yourself why you’re working out, and how hard you’re willing to push yourself to reach your goals (whatever those might be). Some people might be at the gym to shed a few pounds, while others are there to win their next CrossFit competition—yet all of these people are able to do the same workout in the same class, and in the end, find themselves a step closer to reaching their goal. I love the camaraderie and relationships formed through the gym, as everyone supports each other inside and outside of the gym.”

I coach because…

“There is nothing better then the smile on an athletes face when you helped them gain a skill or learn something new. Coaching is something I naturally fell into with hockey and I am excited to persue coaching in crossfit. CrossFit makes people feel go about themselves and life, that’s something I want to be apart of.”

My secret Ninja exercise is…

“Box jumps and handstand pushups! ”

My not so secret sucky is…

“Heavy anything…especially deadlifts.”

My favorite cheat meal is…

“Dessert of any kind!”
