Meagan Wold

Please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m from Elk River, I have a degree in Mass Communications from St Cloud State, and moved to Plymouth December 2013 with my boyfriend Jesse. I have a fulltime job and bartend part time. In July we adopted sibling kitties named Poppy and Anakin.

When and why did you start doing CrossFit?

I started in April because my clothes were getting too tight for comfort and I have no willpower to work out on my own, I need a group setting.

What made you decide to come to CrossFit SISU?

I found an ad for CrossFit SISU online, and the Plymouth location is a mile and half from where I live.

What were you doing before and what apprehensions did you have before starting CrossFit?

Right before I started I was making sure the couch didn’t go anywhere by sitting on it, eating, and watching ‘Friends’ reruns. Before I moved, I used to go to the Y. I loved the group fitness classes and was I scared of the weights area. When I moved, the closest Y didn’t have the classes I liked.  A friend did Crossfit and lost a bunch of weight, he told me I’d like it and since he recommended CrossFit, I didn’t think there was too much to be apprehensive about. In retrospect, I think my friend tricked me.

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit SISU Intro class?

WTF am I getting myself into?! I couldn’t do kettlebell swings or even a squat the right way. After day three I was so frustrated with myself that I went home, drank a beer and cried… But then that frustration led to a fierce determination to get better.

What’s the greatest benefits you see so far since starting at CrossFit SISU?

I can do squats right! But, also I am so much stronger than I was and I get a PR almost every time I come so that’s awesome. I am certainly not anywhere near the fastest or the best but I love it.

How has being at CrossFit SISU enriched your life outside of the box?

I feel better overall, and my clothes aren’t too tight for comfort. I have also developed an obsession with watching YouTube videos of things I have a hard time with and reading tips on how to do things better.

Please share any special memories or achievements during your time at CrossFit SISU?

I ran my fastest mile during a WOD, it was very exciting for me when I finally got wallballs and box jumps, and most recently I finally got a double under! I volunteered at Memorial Day Murph and that was a pretty amazing event. It’s awesome that everyone is so encouraging, coaches included. It’s always a good day when the coaches suggest a higher weight (and I actually listen) and succeed.

What advice would you give to a person thinking about joining our SISU Community?

Come! If I can get through it I really believe anyone can! I think I read somewhere that Sylvester Stallone’s 92 year old mom does CF.. Remember that everything can be modified. Keep coming and don’t give up. Get pissed, get angry and then get the WOD over with and keep coming back so you can prove to yourself that you are getting better.

Favorite WOD?

My ideal WOD would have rowing, squats, and kettle bell swings or burpees.

Secret Ninja exercise is?

Eh.. I don’t think I have one. I am to slow to be a ninja.

My not so secret sucky is?

I immensely dislike wallballs, and snatches are just unnatural and aggravating.

My favorite cheat meal is?

Nachos and hard apple cider. With fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
